A Rustic Affair
October 17, 2015
Contrary to popular belief, there are many types of rustic weddings, giving Brides-to-Be many options to choose from. There are backyard weddings, barn weddings, lakeside weddings, mountain weddings, farm weddings-the list goes on!
What all of these weddings have in common is that they naturally fit within the rustic theme. Burlap, twine, and lace are common decorative items that set the mood for a rustic affair. For instance, burlap-lace ribbon is a gorgeous way to affix wildflower bouquets. For extra bling and formality, add crystals to the wildflower bouquet! Also, twine tied around a color-tinted mason jar is emblematic of a trending rustic favorite, the "country-shabby chic" look.
Another common misconception is that a rustic affair always equals Southern. Though many Southern weddings naturally embody the charm and vintage grace that make rustic weddings pop, the term "rustic" has more to do with a theme relating to the countryside or rural living rather than with a specific region. Thus, a romantic vineyard wedding in Napa Valley or a hillside reception in Vermont can both be beautiful representations of what it means to put on a rustic affair. It's more about the landscape, the backdrop, the vibe, and the overall particularities of the design that make a wedding rustic at heart!
In addition to the destination venues listed above, if you don't want to travel too far for your rustic wedding, then opt for a more local option such as a backyard event or a wedding near a local landmark. For instance, in Missouri, the Lake of the Ozarks or Branson have beautiful views that rival any lodge in Colorado or the Great West.
