When Should I Give My Wedding Party Their Gifts?
May 9, 2015
If you have gifts to give to your wedding party, you may be confused as to when to present your bridal party with their gifts. There is always a certain time and place to give a gift and you will find that at the Reception is probably not the best time.
Why Not the Reception?
Giving your bridal party their gifts at the Reception will be difficult because of everything going on. Between visiting with family members, dancing with your new spouse, and cutting the cake, you will not find time to make the gift giving moment very personal.
Avoid the Reception as this is a time for you to relax and enjoy your new marriage with the love of your life.
When is the Best Time?
There is much debate about when the best time is to hand out bridal party gifts. Two of the best times are the day of the Wedding while you are getting ready or the Rehearsal Dinner.
Many people enjoy handing it out at the Rehearsal Dinner because the Bride can make a speech and the Groom can hand out his gifts at the same time.
Other people, like giving the gifts as the Bridesmaids are getting ready for the big day, especially if the item is jewelry.
If you are not comfortable giving the gift at either of these two times, you can opt to give the gifts at any other time you feel is appropriate. Depending on your needs and wishes, you may find a different time better than the rest.
For instance, if you want your Bridesmaids to wear a necklace for the Wedding and you do not want them to spend their own money purchasing one, you can opt to give the gifts at the Bridal Shower once it is complete.
How Much Should You Spend on a Gift?
Ideally, you should spend what you feel you are comfortable with on the gift. Some people spend $50 per gift and others spend $25 per gift. Only you know your relationship with the person you chose to be in your bridal party. Keep your budget in mind and find something you are happy with.
Choose a Reusable Gift
You should choose a gift that your Bridesmaids can use multiple times and not just once. If you choose a gift that is too personalized, then your Bridesmaid is not likely to use it again. Ideally, you would want your Bridesmaids to think of you often. A great gift can include a cute purse, necklace, bottle opener, and similar.
If you are having trouble picking out gifts for your Bridesmaids as a whole, don't. Purchase a gift for each individual person in the bridal party to show you spent time on the gift. You do not want to give one single gift to everyone as this is impersonal and may not resonate well with the rest. Choose the gifts wisely and your Bridesmaids will love it.
